i just don't know which of these meds to use or works better then the other:
- maximum strength mucinex,
- aleve cold and sinus
I tried benadryl but it does not work or only works for an hour or so.
What works the best to stop post nasal drip?

I assume, like myself, your symptoms are still troubling you - I've had postnasal drip for it must be a decade at least! Then I discovered a website, homeopathic remedies, called SinusWars. They have a little white homeopathic tablet specifically for the problem - and guess what? It actually WORKS! Apart from being drug-free, one or two of these before going to sleep, placed under the tongue to dissolve (entirely pleasant and mild taste) stops the drip! I sometimes combine one of these with a cetirizine (or Zyrtec) and salt spray when the drip is flooding, but otherwise, this is sure to give you a good night's sleep.

Re Post-nasal drip comment by me above - my GP has only just prescribed an antihistamine spray with fluticasone (excellent for inflammation of the nasal passages and sinuses) by the name of (in Australia) DYEMISTA. I found it immediately helpful, after just 2 days; however it has given me a sore throat and a tiny amount of nosebleed (which side-effects are listed on the pamphlet) so have reduced the dose from two sprays per day to one. This is the first true relief I've had at night so I could sleep in over a decade! I feel DYEMISTA would be available in other countries, likely under another Brand name, but do recommend it. It may be more expensive (A$55 per script!) but it lasts for 3-4 months. It works so much better than any other antihistamine spray on the market.

An update on SinusWars use - found them too expensive after a while. However, I'm in Australia and have just recently been prescribed DYEMISTA - fairly new antihistamine and anti-inflammatory combined. It's the first thing in over a decade that has actually totally worked! I have been able to actually get through the night without being woken with coughing of mucous streaming down my throat! It may be under other brand names in other countries, but it is good!

Azelastine nose spray works super well for me (it is a prescription) also Allegra-D (not prescription but usually shown pharmacist an ID) is great when taken daily to build in system so know the full effects can take a month+

Wrong variety of Mucinex. Mucinex Sinus-Max may be okay, but I'd go with Sudafed for sure.

i have flonase but the drs office gave me veramyst i like this one better but i went to the dr 2day they said i was severly Constipated witch i knew but he gave me something for that in a script going soon 2 pick it up whats going on is i dont eat regularly except cereal in the am and dinner at night but because of that its causing me to have indigestion bloating and heartburn and post nasal drip so i also need to take a liquid antacid witch i had to go to the store @ 3am this morning but it worked within minutes.i have felt fine all day except my belly hurts still and from throwing up for a week straight my mouth is dry feels like i burnt it drinking something hot but i did not but what ever hope 2 nights better then the past week it seems everything fine during the day then 9pm comes around i start feeling like crap but im hoping 2 night i get to bed by 3-5 am cuz im starting to feel really run down ..thanks all for answering my questions :)

Did your doctor give you a presc. for Nexum or something for your stomach? Why are you throwing up so much? That could be why your mouth feels burnt from the acid in your vomit. Maybe you should see if your doctor should have you do an endoscopy into your mouth down to your stomach to see what is causing your problem with your stomach. Reflux can cause a lot of problems and it's can stop you from sleeping of course because you are so uncomfortable.

yes my dr gave me gave me nexum years ago for Indigestion and throwing upi to take it at night but by like 4-5 pm every night iv had wicked bad heartburn so iv started within the past few days taking it b4 dinner so my belly is empty and my body is able to absorb it and they gave me a stool softener to help me have a bm every night about an hour after dinner what the dr said that having constipation was causing me to have heart burn and constipation .my belly is feeling better because the bloating is gone i am also on bactrum for my coughing up phlegm and from throwing up my voice is gone this is the 2nd time this has happend in a year im making an appointment for next week to go to the gi dr again i was having this go on and i did have the upper gi and lower gi the said i had some polups but the fixed them and i did good with the throwing up not being constipated but with in a few months it happend again so the nexup alone is not helping the way it should anyway with in the past few days im feeling a little better thanks for all your comments im thankful for your Suggestions

Your best bet would be a decongestant/antihistamine combination. Pseudoephedrine is the best decongestant on the market but you have to ask at the pharmacy counter for pseudoephedrine containing products because they limit the quantity one person can buy. People used to buy large quantities to make methamphetamine so now they limit it. Anything out on the shelves was reformulated with phenylepherine as the decongestant-even the Sudafed, which used to be pseudoephedrine is now Sudafed PE which is phenylepherine and Nyquil, too, was reformulated to contain phenylepherine-you can still get the original formula, you just have to ask the pharmacist for it. In my opinion, phenylepherine just doesnt work as well. The decongestant/antihistamine combo product will really help to dry you up. If you have sinus pain too, you can pick one that contains acetaminophen or ibuprofen, but if you dont have sinus pain, ask the pharmacist for one with just the decongestant and antihistamine.
You will need your ID or drivers license to purchase pseudoephedrine containing products so just go to the pharmacy counter with your ID and ask them for it. There are a lot of formulas, the ones behind the counter will have pseudoephedrine as the decongestant-the difference will be in the antihistamine. Same with the ones on the shelf, except phenylepherine will be the decongestant and the difference is in the antihistamine. I, personally, like pseudoephedrine in a pill by itself, then if I need to, I will take an antihistamine pill with it. I like either diphenhydramine (Benedryl), or Chlorpheniramine Maleate. You can buy a combo product with both pseudoephedrine and chlorpheniramine maleate in one pill. If the products on the shelf arent working, try asking at the counter for ones with pseudoephedrine.

Probably the cold and sinus. You need something that will dry you up. Mucinex isn't going to do anything. It thinks mucous and could make the drop worse.
